Sattwick Dey Biswas

A simple question sparked my interest in economics: How do we determine the value of anything? Why are certain things more valuable in our society than others? What are the underlying principles of valuation? To explore these questions, I conducted a study on land expropriation cases in India. I attempted to address these questions in my doctoral thesis titled "Land Acquisition and Compensation in India: Mysteries of Valuation" (2020) published by Palgrave Macmillan. I also have an upcoming publication titled "Politics of Welfare in the Global South" (Oxford University Press, scheduled for release on 1 Oct 2024). I teach "Social Policy and Social Welfare Administration" and "Gender and Development" as a visiting faculty at Kanyashree University, a newly established state university. I also volunteer at the Young Scholars Initiative of the Institute for New Economic Thinking. Some of my latest publications are; New Book 2024: Dey Biswas, S, Sambo, CS, Pellissery, S (Eds.). The Politics of Welfare in the Global South. New York: Oxford University Press. https://global.oup.com/academic/product/the-politics-of-welfare-in-the-global-south-9780197698686?cc=us&lang=en&# New Special Issue 2024: Dey Biswas, S., Maurer, A. & Hartmann, T. (2024). Editorial: Land policy and land valuation. Land Use Policy. S. 107295. SPECIAL ISSUE. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.landusepol.2024.107295
