| Motivation |   Ariel Enrique Guarco is the President of the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) from 2017 till date. He is an avid reader and prolific author with publications to his credit.  Ariel Enrique Guarco is a professor at the National University of Tres de Ferero, postgraduate department since 2016 and full member of the advisory council of the Centre for Cooperativism and Other Entities of the Social Economy since 2014.  One of Ariel Enrique Guarco most recent works is titled ‘‘Cooperative Principles in Action: Addressing the Challenges of Today’s Global Agenda’’.  The book addresses contemporary issues within the cooperative movement, particularly the subject matter of cooperatives, cooperative principles and the economics of globalisation.  Herein is a call to participate in the reading of Ariel Enrique Guarco’s book ‘‘Cooperative Principles in Action: Addressing the Challenges of Today’s Global Agenda’’.  The book contains eight chapters namely: 1. Neither Walls nor Financial Globalization: Peace and Solidarity Economy; 2. A Necessary Alliance: Women’s Rights and Economic Democracy; 3. A Cooperative Agenda to Defend the Planet; 4. Integrate Diversity to Democratize Discourse; 5. Democratizing the Agri-Food System; 6. The Cooperation Path to the Future of Work; 7. Without Financial Democracy there is no Inclusion nor Sustainable Development; and 8. Cooperatives as Social Capital for Positive Peace.  Furthermore, the book contains the following components that are not chapterized:  a. An Epilogue in Pandemic Times;  b. We Must be Champions of International Cooperation for Peace and Sustainable Development; c. The Role of Social and Solidarity Economy in the Sustainable Development Goals; d. Competitiveness and Cooperative Principles; e. The Construction of Sustainable Habitats is the Surest Path to Sustainable Development; and f. An Invitation to the Youth: We Need You to Develop your Innovation in Cooperative Organisations  Participants in the book reading project will be assigned a chapter or component to read and discuss with colleagues during a webinar series.  Probable addendum to the reading group. Please be informed that subject to the express authorisation of the author and publisher, each treated chapter and component of the book may be subsequently reproduced into a review of such chapter and component. Such review may be presented at an in-person event. A meeting of interested members of the working group is scheduled for 23rd February, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm CET.  Thank you. |
