The workshop will take place at the University of Seville in Seville, Spain on December 2, 2026, the day before the XIII Meeting of the Iberian Association for the History of Economic Thought. In partnership with the Latin American Association of History of Economic Thought (ALAHPE) and the Iberian Association of History of Economic Thought (AIHPE), this project seeks to advance research on the production, circulation, and reception of economic ideas in the Iberian world, with particular attention to the historical connections between the Iberian Peninsula and Latin America. To this end, we propose a transdisciplinary approach centered on the relationship between the dissemination of economic knowledge and the exercise of political power. The aim of this proposal is to explore: (1) how certain ideas become consolidated as dominant approaches in the theoretical and political debates of different regions; (2) how they connect with economic policy, institutions, governments, elites, and power groups; (3) how they are disseminated; (4) how they are received, reinterpreted, adapted, or imposed in territories with autochthonous social, cultural, and institutional characteristics, and (5) how those ideas, in turn, reverberate within and reshape these contexts. The workshop will provide a unique opportunity for participants to engage with new topics, perspectives, methods, and insights, while fostering long-term intellectual exchange among scholars from Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula.
Participants
The organizers will select five young scholars, including Master’s students, PhD candidates, and postdoctoral
