Reminder: Call for Papers Deadline Approaching!

From September 9-11, 2024, the international seminar “Rethinking the Development of Latin America and the Caribbean from Mexico” will be held at the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs of Mexico in Mexico City. Sponsored by the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) and the Metropolitan Autonomous University, this seminar aims to address critical social, economic, and environmental development issues in the region.

Objectives:

  • Address themes such as low productivity growth, environmental impacts, and inequality.
  • Generate viable policy proposals for high-level decision-makers.
  • Form a task force of academics and former public officials to continue the debate on strategic regional issues.

Seminar Background: Latin America and the Caribbean face slow GDP growth, investment, and productivity. The seminar will tackle three key gaps: external, social, and environmental, aiming for sustainable growth by redistributing income and building technological capacities.

Call for Papers:

  • Open to individuals aged 18-40.
  • Suitable for doctoral students (75% thesis progress) or early-career researchers.
  • Relevant disciplines: economics, political science, public administration, sociology, etc.
  • Submit long abstracts (up to 5000 words) or final papers in Spanish, Portuguese, or English.

Thematic Areas:

  1. New Global Order: Adaptation to global geo-economic changes.
  2. Growth and Stabilization Policies: Strategies for external constraints and financial shocks.
  3. Policies and Governance: Addressing inequality and strengthening democracy.
  4. Integration, Trade, and Production: Overcoming obstacles to regional integration.
  5. Productive Specialization, Technology, and Investment: Adapting to new trade patterns.
  6. Sustainable Development: Balancing economic, social, and environmental sustainability.

Key Information:

  • Partial stipends for travel and accommodation for selected participants.
  • Selected papers presented at the seminar will contribute to a published book.

  • Results publication: August 5, 2024
