About

I am an Assistant Professor in Global Development Policy at Boston University. I have a PhD from Oxford University and a Masters in Law and Finance, also from Oxford. I have advised the United Nations, World Bank, International Monetary Fund, the Gates Foundation, governments in Africa and Asia, and a range of other organizations on issues around financial inclusion, consumer protection, and systemic risk.

About my research

I focus on exploring how to apply new fields of economics, such as market design, mechanism design, and contract theory to provide clean energy, clean drinking water to rural communities in Africa. To do so, I analyze and research how we can develop “bridge contracts,” which firms and governments are using to move into rural and frontier areas in Africa. Such contracts help connect firms with rural communities. I currently focus on bridge contracts which underpin the M-Pesa agent system in Ghana, “Hello Tractor” which is a so-called “Uber for tractor” sharing app in Nigeria, and the “Bboxx” micro-solar energy service in Rwanda.
