About
Herbert Mba Aki holds the position of Assistant Professor of Political Science at the Faculty of Law and Economics of the Université Omar Bongo in Libreville, Gabon. He obtained his Ph.D. in Political Science & International Studies from Hanyang University in Seoul, South Korea in 2021. His research interests lie at the intersection of Economic Governance and Environmental Policy. In addition to his academic endeavors, Herbert Mba Aki is actively engaged in various Research Networks. He served as the Coordinator of the Africa working group of the Young Scholars Initiative from 2020 to 2023. In late 2023, he was appointed as an Expert from Low & Middle Income Country at Future Earth Assembly and is also a member of the Early Career Researchers group within the same organization. Beyond his academic and research commitments, Herbert Mba Aki is a staunch Panafricanist and a passionate advocate for good governance and democracy in Africa. He actively contributes to advancing this agenda through his involvement in the Now Generation Network with the Mo Ibrahim Foundation and the Democratic Solidarity Africa initiative with the Forum 2000 Foundation.
About my research
Currently, Herbert’s research is centered on the Monetization of Forest Conservation in Gabon, with a particular focus on understanding the impact of conservation efforts on local communities’ livelihoods. He aspires to extend this research to encompass the entire Congo Basin Region.
