Description

The organization of the Metropolitan Development Forum is part of the research 'The Metropolis and the Right to the City: knowledge, innovation and action for urban development' from the INCT 2015-2020 program (National Institute of Science and Technology, a brazilian governmental funding program to support research) 'Observatório das Metrópoles', and aims to promote the articulation between civil society, academia and public power. The event integrates one of the actions of the extension line of the mentioned research, being also articulated to the project of Extensions of Metropolitan Citizenship, coordinated by the Laboratory of Urban and Metropolitan Studies (Lab-Urb / UFMG). This year, the theme of the forum will be "The popular economy in the metropolitan context", and it will take place on November 09 and 10, being hosted at the School of Architecture of UFMG and the participation of the general public will be made at no charge. The choice of theme was due to the urgent need to reflect the actions, situations and scenarios of the urban popular economy and its intrinsic relation with the metropolis and the public space. The first day will have as sub-theme "Popular Economy and Metropolitan Politics in the RMBH" and will begin with a lecture by two researchers from the INCT Observatório das Metrópoles as well as a representative of the RMBH Nucleus and the School of Architecture coordination. Then there will be simultaneous activities in the formats of workshops, presentations in the room and cultural activities, and will end with a panel discussion that will be attended by three to four guests, representing the academic, popular and governmental sectors. On the second day, the sub-theme will be "Popular economy in other metropolitan contexts" and will begin with the simultaneous activities (workshops, room presentations and cultural activities), followed by a panel discussion that, as on the first day, will count on the participation of three to four invited representatives of the academic, popular and governmental sectors, however, it is intended that these debaters have participated in experiences elsewhere, and, to close the event, a lecture focused on the theme of the popular economy. A public announcement will be opened so that groups, organizations and other interested parties can register work and activities to compose the event's schedule. Throughout the two days of the event and parallel to the other activities, there will be a fair in which producers and traders of the popular economy of the RMBH will be able to expose their products to the public of the forum, the community of the School of Architecture and the street. The forum will be attended by researchers and collaborators from the area, such as the Colmeia Solidária group (Group of studies, research and extension in popular and solidarity economy) of the Faculty of Economic Sciences of UFMG and the group AUÊ! (Studies in urban agriculture) of the Institute of Geoscience of UFMG, as well as by social and collective metropolitan movements, among which the “Brigadas Populares” stands out.
