Danny Dorling

Halford Mackinder Professor of Geography of the School of Geography and the Environment of the University of Oxford

Description

The end of our high-growth world was underway well before COVID-19 arrived. In his new book "Slowdown" Danny Dorling demonstrates the benefits of a larger, ongoing societal slowdown. Professor Dorling uses compelling visualizations to illustrate how fertility rates, growth in GDP per person, increases in life expectancy, and even the frequency of new social movements have all steadily declined over the last few generations. In this talk he will introduce this new line of reasoning and consider its significance for new economic thinking in the context of post-pandemic world
