Location:

Fields Institute, Toronto, Ontario

Description

There is a growing concern, both on academic and on policymaking circles, regarding the distributional impacts of monetary policy. This is reflected in a growing empirical literature, in policymakers speeches and on the organization of workshops and events. The Young Scholars Initiative participated in two such events: the Toronto Monetary Policy and Income Distribution Conference (see here), that took place in September 2022, and the IARIW-Bank of Italy Conference, which took place in Naples, Italy, March 2023 (see here).

This project is intended to organize both a pre-event workshop and the Young Scholars participation in the main event of the II Toronto Monetary Policy and Income Distribution Conference, which will take place in Toronto, Canada, November 16-17 2023. The full program and website of the event will be launched soon.

The II Toronto Monetary Policy and Income Distribution Conference attempts to bring together academics and policymakers to discuss the relationship between monetary policy and income distribution, with a special focus on the functional income distribution and on the Pasinetti Index.

We will select up to 6 young scholars to present their papers in the main conference. Prior to the main event, a special YSI workshop will be hosted by the Keynesian Economics working group during which these issues will be discussed in a smaller group format.

All applicants must fill the following application form by August 15th, 2023. Contributions on the following topics are welcome:
1) The Pasinetti Index;
2) Impact of monetary policy on functional income distribution;
3) Impact of monetary policy on income distribution and gender;
4) Impact of monetary policy on income distribution and racialized minorities;
5) Monetary policy, inequality, and social responsibility of central banks;
6) Impact of monetary policy on personal income distribution.

Main event website: to be launched soon.

YSI will offer partial travel support for selected candidates. The main event will cover the accommodation. Decisions will be made by the end of August and will be based on clarity, relevance and originality of abstracts outlining the research question, method and (preliminary) results. In case of acceptance, full papers, including an abstract of max. 500 words are due by November 10th, 2023.
