Gender and Industrial Policy – A Feminist Economics Perspective

While gender and economics is becoming a prominent field in the discipline, little attention has been paid to gender and industrial policy. At the same time, questions linked to the role of women and people with diverse gender identities in the predictive system become even more relevant in contexts in which economic recovery policies are being discussed. With the goal of contributing to filling this gap, the workshop “Gender and Industrial Policy: Perspectives from Feminist Economics”—co-hosted by the YSI Gender and Economics Working Group, the YSI States and Markets Working Group and the Ministry of Women, Genders, and Diversity of Argentina—seeks to not only create a space to make visible these debates, but also to emphasise their importance in a context in which in Argentina as well as the rest of the world new policies are being implemented in order to respond to the challenges posed by the current geopolitical context.

This one-day workshop will have three parts:

###

i) A round table with keynote speakers from academia, government and inter-governmental organizations:
* Lucía Cirmi Obón – Undersecretary of Equality (Argentina)
* Priscila Makari – Undersecretary of Industry (Argentina)
* Valeria Esquivel – International Labour Organization
* Alma Espino – Facultad de Ciencias Económicas de la Universidad de la República
ii) A group discussion based on a selected number of readings.
iii) A brainstorming session to decide on a project that we can collectively carry out in order to advance the conversations on gender and industrial policy.
This event is open to everyone attending in person and the first part will also be streamed. Please register (click on "attend") so you receive all the necessary information on how to join in the future.

YSI will also provide a few travel stipends to cover the in-person participation of selected participants within the region. If you would like to be considered for this, please complete the relevant application form before September 10th. Applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis.
