Description

The Workshop in Economics of Innovation, Complexity and Knowledge (WICK#9) for doctoral students and young researchers is jointly organized by the Vilfredo Pareto Doctoral Program in Economics – University of Turin, BRICK and the YSI Complexity Economics Working Group, and each year it attracts about 20-25 young researchers in Economics and Social Sciences from all over the world. This will be the 9th edition of the Workshop and it will take place on December 16–17, 2021 at the Collegio Carlo Alberto in Turin (Italy).

The aim of the workshop is to bring together young researchers from different disciplines and provide them an opportunity of discussion of both full and early works. Participants will also have the opportunity to receive helpful feedback from distinguished faculty members and external scholars.
The main topics of the Workshop are Economics of Knowledge and Innovation. The focus of the event is on Firm and Regional Innovation Strategies, Economics of Science, Economics of Networks, Environmental Economics and their policy implication.

The workshop will bring together methodologically heterogeneous works from Econometric contributions to Complex Network Analysis and computational methods, such as Agent-Based Models. The plurality of the approaches and the broad pool of knowledge covered in WICK#9 is embodied by the members of our Scientific Committee who are active participants of the event, together with some other senior scholars, that come as discussants during the sessions of the workshop.

Participants may apply for a long or a short presentation session. In the long presentation sessions one participant will have 20 minutes to present a full paper. In the short presentation session 2 or 3 participants will have 10 minutes each to present an advanced research proposal. In both cases a senior research is going to lead a 10 minutes discussion of the paper/research projects after the presentation. To apply for the workshop the submission of an extended abstract of the paper/research proposal is enough (maximum 1000 words), but for those who choose a long presentation the full paper will be required a couple of weeks before the Workshop.

As usual, the young researchers will also have the opportunity to attend lessons from renowned scholars in the field. This year we are glad to host as keynote speakers Prof. Elena Cefis (Università di Bergamo) and Prof. Francesca Medda (University College London).

Due to the restrictions related to Covid-19, the event will be held in-person with social distancing measures and streamed online. Thus, the participants have the possibility of presenting online. In case of further developments of the pandemic, we are prepared to hold the Workshop fully online. Otherwise, the workshop will be held in presence at Collegio Carlo Alberto. In compliance with the Italian Government Decree (D.L. 6 August 2021, n. 111 ), all participants must possess a valid EU Digital Green Pass, in order to be allowed inside Collegio Carlo Alberto. Furthermore, Italy applies health-related restriction measures to incoming travellers, which may vary depending on their country of origin. Before entering Italy from any country of origin, participants who want to follow the Workshop in presence must meet all the travel conditions required at the time of the event.
