Description

After a session on Evolutionary Realism, the second reading session was remarkably illuminating concerning how the economic reality is perceived or established thorough the light of scientific ideology and vision. Although the Ontology of Economics is still not well analyzed field of research, we continue our journey with supplementary readings to guide us and continue researching. The first and second reading sessions left us with many questions concerning the Ontology of Economics that we will try to cover or discuss further in the upcoming sessions.

The third reading session is about the work of economics on the 18th of December at 21:00 CET. Please do join us if you are interested!

The author raises various questions that include:

  • How does the work of economics operate to establish facts and make them stable?
  • Is economics sometimes able to use the world as a laboratory? If so, what measures are necessary to organize the world as a laboratory for economic experiments?

Paper : Mitchell, Timothy. "The Work of Economics: How a Discipline Makes Its World."
Key phrases : making economic reality hold; world as a laboratory; the economy as a counterfactual world
Link to the paper : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bkn5puVqdYxg8HlvJeutsEjVxeVnUtGc/view?usp=sharing

Besides, it is mandatory to read the paper, since the discussion will be specifically based on the paper of each reading session.

First 30 minutes we will discuss key points from the paper. Then, we will move on to elaborate, criticize or analyze the ideas stated and try to connect the reading to the overall picture of the reading group.
