Research questions

  • How should policymakers respond to increasing inflation rates? What can we learn from the legal and economic responses of governments in previous episodes of stagflation?
  • How can central banks adequately regulate a fast-changing financial system? What kinds of international agreements are necessary in this regard?
  • How will Central Bank digital currencies (CBDCs) affect monetary economics, the future of money, or the nature of money?
  • What are the social and economic effects of the ongoing reorientation of antitrust law to address power imbalances in labor markets? What legal reforms are necessary to guarantee workers’ freedom of occupation around the world?
  • What are the economic justifications and legal bases for progressive policy proposals (e.g. wealth taxes, minimum corporate global taxes, federal ban of non-compete clauses, suspension of intellectual property rights)?
  • How can an economy with a new perspective be built? What does it take to create an economy that serves to create a positive social and environmental impact?
  • How are economic opportunities for value creation and beyond value extraction be taken into consideration within the research themes of this working group?
  • How to respond to his Holiness Pope Francis’ call for new economic thinking: administration of common goods, the relationship between economics and politics, place of the “uselessness” in the current economic system?
  • How or why has the spread of new diseases and other epidemiological crises exacerbated international inequality?
  • How do we enhance collaboration between lawyers and economists when addressing multidisciplinary challenges?
