The Advanced School honors Axel Leijonhufvud legacy and is jointly organized by the University of Trento and INET.
The school will take place online. The School is intended for advanced/candidate PhDs, post docs and junior scholars. Students will attend the lectures online and will be assisted by a mentor for the developement of a research project.
Students can choose to attend the Advanced School in one of those manners:
Full attendance: you will attend both modules of the school and you will be assisted by a mentor for the development of a research project. At the end of the Advanced School you get a certification of attendance.
You are required to upload a statement about your current or projected research when applying.
Attendance as and auditor: you can attend classes but you will not produce a research project and you will be not assisted by a mentor.
You are not required to upload a statement about your current or projected research when applying.

The global Covid-19 pandemic and the Ukraine conflict have upended much of the standard patterns of production and consumption across the world. Destructive as it has been, it has in some senses only sharpened some long-standing cracks in the contemporary construction of the global economy. Even when we exit the current moment, there are looming generational challenges facing the world.
There is an urgent need to address critical questions that have thus far been unresolved:
- how to manage the bounties of technology in a way that ensures the greatest benefit to the widest population rather than sinking into a technological oligarchy with widespread unemployment;
- how to reimagine our financial, trade and macroeconomic arrangements to allow for just and equitable development; how to rethink issues as the role of sovereign and private debt, inflation targeting as the master macroeconomic management tool, and the arrangement of global financial markets.
how to reconfigure our global system of international arrangements to promote greater prosperity. Existing globalization has followed a corporate-led globalization agenda that has overlooked and undermined other legitimate social and economic concerns. How can we imagine an alternative global arrangement that serves the interests of national economies?
- how to transition to a more sustainable economy and mitigate the wrenching changes that will undoubtedly come from a rapidly warming world. What are the global responsibilities and global distributional impacts? How should one think of and model industrial policies in the aid of a global green transition? Where are we now, and how far do we have to go to meet the challenge? What are the consequences of inaction or slow progress?
The aim of the 2022 Axel Leijonhufvud Advanced School is to gather lecturers and students with a strong motivation to engage in open-minded discussions of analytical and modeling possibilities, and to address both theoretical and applied issues. This is the recurring practice of the Axel Leijonhufvud Advanced School.

People interested in participating in the Advanced School are encouraged to fill in the application form.
The deadline for application is extended to August 7, 2022 (4 PM GM+1)
Required documents
During the admission procedure you will need to provide some personal information and to upload the following documents:
- a detailed Curriculum Vitae (please mention any previously attended schools or similar activities)
- a course transcript from your PhD program including advanced examinations passed
- two letters of recommendation.
- statement about your current or projected research – only for full attendance applicants
